My wife and I are planning a trip to Tuscany for 3 days later this month. I am looking for help building an itinerary that will help us see and taste all that Tuscany has to offer. I am a little overwhelmed between reading my 800 page guidebook and surfing the web for ideas.

Hi Bryan,
My advice would be not to try and cover as much territory as possible as you will spend too much time in the car getting from place to place.
Try and concentrate each day around 1 area (and understand its wines, foods and attractions) and then at the end of the day go into the next area.
There's and endless list of combinations that one could do.
A classical example would be (in any order you like) Chianti Classico area, Montalcino & Montepulciano, Siena & San Gimignano.
If you want to think "out of the box" some other great areas are the Maremma region (but you need at least 2 days) and Bolgheri and the Etruscan coast.
Other classicals are Arezzo & Cortona and Lucca & Pisa.

Thanks Rebecca for youe suggestions! We decided to extend our days in Tuscany to 4 days. I wish it could be more! We are staying at an Agriturismo called Fattoria Casa Sola, which is also a winery.

That location should give us access to do some day trips to those areas you listed. I would love to hit the coast, but I think that would be trying to do too much! I want to slooooow down, relax, and take it all in.

There is so much to see in Tuscany it's hard to know where to begin. Any of the hilltowns are great. If you have the apartment for the entire time, you can do day trips to lots of places. And not just in Tuscany. You can go to the Cinque Terre from there, and many other places. I wouldn't bother renting other places for night stays if you have this apt for the entire time. You'll be in a great jumping-off place for other locales.

In 2003 we rented an apartment in Montepulciano. It was up on the top (3rd) floor, and had 2.5 floors itself. The view from the rooftop balcony was of the hills to the south and east. I told my wife she could kill me now, because life would never get better.

I'm so envious. Can I come?

I'd say have a great trip, but a great trip in ensured.
